- 2023 workshop participant

Do you have digital photographs and video? Have you discovered a collection of old floppy disks and CD-ROMs, but have no idea what’s on them or how to look after them and their content? Do you want to begin collecting more contemporary born-digital materials, but don’t know where to start?

NDF and Joshua Ng (Digital Preservation Analyst, Archives New Zealand) present a full day workshop that delves into the essentials of digital preservation and management of digital collections.

Participants will:

  • Be introduced to the core concepts and vocabulary of digital preservation, setting a foundational understanding for professionals.
  • Explore practical approaches for the long-term management and accessibility of digital assets, including storage solutions and metadata standards.
  • Examine real-world case studies to understand the challenges and best practices for preserving digital collections.
  • Gain insights into developing a sustainable digital preservation strategy tailored to an organisation's unique needs, focusing on risk management, stakeholder involvement, and budget considerations.
  • Develop policies and workflows that meet your iwi or organisation’s needs
  • Be invited to join NDF’s online learning hub. This easy-to-use hub allows participants to access additional resources, refer back to the workshop’s slides and virtually meet and discuss their learning with other workshop attendees from across the country.

Format
In-person only. 10am - 4pm, including morning, lunch and afternoon breaks. Light catering is provided for short breaks but participants should bring their own lunch.

Pre-workshop survey

The purpose of this survey is to get a baseline understanding of prior experience and knowledge, if any, in digital preservation, as well as what it is you hope to get out of the workshop. The results of this survey will determine the workshop content.
